Been in Genova for a week staying with Gregoriana & Manuel - what wonderful hosts (and cooks) they are! Despite Greg being unwell she never once failed to be the very model of a perfect hostess and an especially good and dear friend. Manuel also. On Monday we went to their casita in the hills above Masone.
"Welcome to the 17th Century", said Manuel as we arrived after a 30 minute walk from the car. Across a river (and thus out of Liguria and into Piedmont), uphill 600 meters and a red roof is suddenly visible across a pristine ancient wooded valley in a national park. Exquisite.
No electricity meant guitars and picknicking after dark - perfect, except for the rain.
Back to Blighty and fine weather and grief. Arthur's funeral was yesterday.
Now 40,000 visitors here since 17th April 2003.
