    25/5/2006 - Rodrigo y Gabriella
Rodrigo & Gabriella were absolutely stunning! Live at the Junction in Cambridge they made more noise than ought to be possible using just two nylon-string guitars. Rodrigo plays (mostly) lead/melodies using a plectrum while Gabriella provides an entire rhythm section with a whole battery of techniques from golpe to reasgueados - all of them unorthodox and virtuosic. There were cameras onstage with projections but they completely failed to be able to keep up with the furious pace - rendering fast-moving fingers into a blur.

They played mostly original material from their latest album (including a song called "Satori") but delighted the Cambridge crowd with a loose rendition of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" and got everyone to sing along. They seemed delighted that some in the audience knew all the words! The finale was a superb version of "Stairway to Heaven" which came as a complete delight and a shock. The jazzy rumba treatment they gave this classic was thrilling - transforming it from cliche by the use of original and highly inventive melodic improvisation.
