Another broken nail

Last Sunday Ed came and worked on "Cage of Words". He got it to the point where he was happy enough with the mix and structure and took away a copy to listen to. I had one or two tiny reservations: I thought the instrumental balance wasn't quite right and that the new solo section lacked 'something'. Last night, after reading Jakko's blog and being impressed by his attention to every musical detail, I decided to address these issues. I opened the song in Cubase and adjusted the balance to my satisfaction then picked up my guitar to address the solo. Not having played in ages, but still feeling inspired by Rodrigo & Gabriella from the night before, I promptly broke my thumbnail. Doh! In the end, I quintuple-tracked the exisiting material rather than contribute anything new as this was possible using fingers only. The effect is that the passage sounds more intentional - or maybe less arbitrary. |
