After big rains, the river Swale (behind our house) has swollen and raged and burst out of its usual path and into the surrounding land. It's quite awe inspiring when the Swale does this. The amount of water, and the speed at which it flows, are astonishing. See this photo album for some images.

By the way, although I don't post in this blog very often (unfortunately), I do post frequent short updates here and here.

I'm practising for a recital of Francesco da Milano (my first pure Francesco recital ever!), and having a fantastic time. It's very very good to get back into playing again, and to be working on this wonderful music!

Well, so far I've not kept to my new year's resolution at all!
Oh well, there are other ways to keep up with me, noteably in these three places:

    happy new year!!!
my resolution for 2008: write in this blog more often -- perhaps four times a year instead of just twice a year??

Anyone who has clicked on the "blog" link on my website will have noticed that this blog has been more or less defunct for the best part of a year. Those who know me well will be aware that this is because time has been short -- I've been heavily occupied looking after Edie, who will be three in October, and also heavily engaged in house-hunting and relocation planning. And now it's really going ahead: Zan and Edie and I will be heading from South London to North Yorkshire at the end of August, to a beautiful Georgian house (which needs a lot of work).

I've tended to use my spare moments to keep in touch with friends and family via my photo site (here), rather than writing in this blog. I regret not having time for both.

On the music front, I'm just preparing for a week at the Cambridge Early Music Summer Schools, where I teach and perform every year in August.

After that, there isn't much until a solo trip to Vilnius in October, and quite a lot of work with a wonderful French dance company next year.

I thought I'd write a few words after a shamefully long gap!
Things continue in much the same vein. Life is very eventful.
Zan's had a very busy time with concerts since I wrote last, and I've spent most of my time doing child care, though I have managed to fit in a few concerts, and fifteen performances at the Globe Theatre (in the new play In Extremis, by Howard Brenton). Not to mention a day of filming with Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman for "The other Boleyn girl", out next year.
I'm also practising a tiny bit every day for some solo recitals I'll be doing in the winter.
I would love to write a paragraph every night before going to bed, summing up the day. But it just doesn't happen.
There's so much detail to report.
But I'll have to leave that for another day, and leave you with this picture of Edie, who will be 2 on Sunday!
